At-home smoked cocktail techniques and how to nail them!

Now that you're craving a smoked cocktail, it's time to learn the different techniques for creating the finished productafter all, it's about the whole experience not just the end game! Here are 4 methods to experiment with, which do you prefer?

CLOCHE STYLE GLASS DOME

BEST FOR: showing off & surrounding yourself with smoky aromas.

Used in the Entertainer & Ultimate Smoked Cocktail Kits.

If you're after a captivating & totally theatrical smoked cocktail technique, you need to go all out with your tools. Our most popular kits are by far those containing the glass smoke dome. By filling the whole dome, your cocktail becomes engulfed by the drifting smoke which dances on the cocktail surface. Strawless drinks are recommended with this technique for two reasons, 1. they'll probably hit the dome roof, not ideal. 2. this allows your nose to dive straight into the glass, tasting the flavours on your nose as well as your tongue.

  • Burn 1 lid-full of chips, pellets or shavings on one end of the slate dish - 2x 1/2 lids for flavour combos (And Molotov kits)
  • Cover fire with dome when all wood is alight
  • Lean dome over with a 5 mm gap for 10 seconds to increase airflow
  • Hands off & allow dome to fill for 2 minutes
  • Prepare your cocktail
  • Place cocktail on other end of slate, move dome quickly to cover, infuse for 2 minutes

INVERTED DRINKING GLASS

BEST FOR: the folks buying gifts on a budget, or for making cocktails on the road.

Used in the Essentials, Compact & Bar Setup Smoked Cocktail Kits.

This simpler technique combines your smoking vessel with your drinking glass for a more compact & straight-to-the-point creation. Since the smoking area is much smaller than the area inside the glass dome, less smoke fuel is required. Any sized glass can be used, but typically a rock glass works well. Make sure to always, ALWAYS use a chilled glass, smoke molecules actually attach better to cold surfaces than they do to hot. This means the smoke will paint itself inside your glass, lingering from your first sip all the way to your last.

BEST FOR: a total DIY setup. You got a bottle, you got a gym.. I mean gin, smoked gin!

Start with an empty glass jar with a lida wine decanter or drink pitcher with a small opening that you can cover with your thumb or palm is also suitable. Ensure the opening is smooth enough that is wont tip over when placed upside-down & is free from cracks or chips where smoke could drift out. Let the balancing act begin!
